From Marco Zero arise a community, a people, a culture, a city.
More than a point on the map, it can be seen as a guide to go further, to imagine and to make things real. Galeria Marco Zero was conceived as a cultural center where different generations and artistic movements converge. From modern to contemporary art, established artists meet rising talents in a constant dialogue in which visitors are invited to be not only spectators but also participants in thinking about art and culture.
Recife was founded where the Beberibe and Capibaribe rivers meet the Atlantic Ocean, in an area surrounded by mangroves, a rich ecosystem that nurtures life and diversity.
It is by referencing this plurality and the history of Pernambuco’s capital that Galeria Marco Zero was born, a space devoted to the visual arts and to fostering the artistic scene of the state and the country, supporting local production and decentralizing the circulation of art beyond the Rio-São Paulo axis.
“I saw the world… It began in Recife”
The title of one of the most monumental works by Cícero Dias, a master whose work is part of the collection and whose piece “Rosa dos Ventos” sits at the center of the city’s Marco Zero square, serving as a kind of compass for the gallery. The cardinal points explored through the squares of the visual identity open up space to reveal different works and artists, arranged in different rhythms, in step with each exhibition.
